What a difference a week makes!

What a difference a week makes (November 9-15)!  On Monday, November 9th, we signed the papers (yes, we were nervous!) and the house saga began.  We had no idea how fast this process would go; we do hear from the experts that it won't always go this quickly.  The trees were marked and the cutting and removal started. There were 3 trees that came into question since they were outside the footprint of the house.  We had to make some decisions and soon.  The first tree to come down was a no-brainer, it was dead, so timber, down it came.  The next tree also had to be removed since it was on the edge of the driveway and I'm sure would have been hit in a hastily exit from the garage.  The third tree, that's a whole different story.  We were lucky enough to have a mature Oak tree in our yard - this was a surprise to us.  However, we soon realized that it was only one foot from the garage.  After much deliberation and guidance, we had to cut the tree.  We realized that we could not take the chance of structural damage or it falling during a Memphis storm.  It was sad, but overall, the right decision.

With the lot cleared, the real work started.  Everything moved so fast this week - between soil management, plumbing, foundation prepping, and cement pouring, a lot took place.  We even had to make choices about fixtures. We have done a lot of planning (2 years!) but the questions come quicker than the answers.  The pictures below show this week's adventures.  We can't wait to see what next week brings - framing anyone?  More to come from Chateau Fountain.
